Boston Reunion 2008 (Part Two: The Kids)

Been holding on to this post for a while. Gotta finish my vacation re-cap before the holidays hit and I enter pumpkin hell.

Being a dusty and barren old spinster, I don't get to do many posts about cute kids. However, during vacation I was up to my saddlebags in the adorable little dumplings. At one point, there were six kids under the age of 2 1/2. It made for some interesting restaurant experiences, that's for sure. Everyone has made a big deal about how well I coped with so much youth and vitality, but it really was a lot of fun. I'm Mormon. I know what kids are about. And when they flipped out, I just simply handed them off to their parents. Someday I'll probably have quadruplets and then I'll get mine. Until then, it's all fun and no responsibility.

The first little tykes that I encountered in Boston were Ava and Brielle Buchanan.

Ava

Adorable!

Ava, enjoying her first cannoli from Mike's Pastry:

Brielle

Brielle reminds me so much of her mom, Alicia, in this video. You can tell that proper hair care is a top priority in the Buchanan household.

Brielle showing the other Mormons at Mormon Night at Fenway the appropriate way to behave at a baseball game. Watch the damn game, you losers! There's plenty of time to socialize during Sunday School! Show some respect!

Brielle taking over command of the U.S.S. Constitution

And then came the Bishop children!

Samantha

Sorry, Sammie. I couldn't resist:

And these are some of my favorite shots of my vacation. It was NOT the perfect day for swimming off the shores of Cape Cod, but that's not going to stop Samantha Bishop! Here she is, adjusting to the frigid waters:

Spencer

I'm sorry, but Kamber, YOU MAKE THIS FACE ALL THE TIME! Alicia, are you with me on this? This first picture here is all you, girl:

Then Claire Boyle arrived on the scene:

Claire

Here's super-cute Claire hanging out in her "backpack! backpack!" (as she called it) as we take a ride on the swan boats in the Public Garden. (Coincidentally, my first time on the swan boats. What is up with that?)

Thank you so much, Scott and Sarah, for driving all that way just for little old me. I hope the Zuni Roll made it worth your while.

After one week in Yankee territory (and by Yankees, I don't mean baseball) the South rose again. Jeni Hendrix Ennis came up from Alabama with her daughter:

Sara Katherine

Best picture EVER:

Come on! Isn't she killing you with that face? Those squishy arms? I absolutely loved this girl.

Sara Katherine texting her dad.

S.K. has a thing for apple juice, pronounced "-uice." We heard that word a lot on vacation. That, and "dog dog."

Next stop, the Tim and Becky Wilson residence, home of:

Caroline

Caroline doesn't appear to be too thrilled about being stuck in the back seat with me:

"Isn't there somewhere else you can sit?"

"Can you at least get yo' camera up outta my business?"

Speaking of squishy, Caroline definitely holds her own in that department. Totally irresistible. Too bad we missed baby Amelia Wilson by a few short weeks. Next time!

But we DID make it there just in time for Mikey and Marisa's baby:

Jonah

What an angel, right? So beautiful. He has two of the funniest, zaniest, greatest parents a kid could ask for. I can't wait to see how their personalities will manifest themselves in Jonah. He's got it made in the parent department, that's for sure. (Sorry, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt.)

I can't wait for the next vacation! Keep those cute kids a comin'!

That was the best post EVER! Seriously. I mean my own children where featured and all, which made it good, but I loved seeing all the kiddos. They certainly did make the vacation back to Boston more interesting. It was in no way like our good ole relaxing days of being childless and carefree. Thank you for being so good to us through all the crying, screaming, fighting, tantrums, scenes in public, etc. You are the best Aunt Randi!

I died laughing at the video. Yes, I think Brie has some of me in her and Samantha has some Kamber in her. Kidding Kam. Come on! And yes, Spencer is totally making a Kamber face. Hilarious. Oh, one more thing that picture of Sarah Katherine in her red checkers is absolutely gorgeous!!!! She looks like she should be the cover of a Southern Child magazine.

Cute cute cute! I was laughing so hard Brian had to come see what was so funny. I love the Brielle video, hilarious! And Spencer's face was pretty funny too. Thanks for sharing all the goodies. What a fun trip. Sammie misses you -- asked me just today where Aunt Randi is. No joke. These are all adorable pictures.

Hi Randi,

How are you doing?

Cute kiddos! Can you please do me a favor though? Please tell their parents to get their sweet kids carseats checked to make sure they are installed and fitted properly for their kids. Its obvious to me from the pics that they are not tight enough and that plastic clicking part should be even with the child's armpits. The seat itself should not even have more than one inch of wiggle room in any direction. Here are two sites that can help them find a local car seat inspection place, also local police or fire stations should have someone trained in car seat installation:

http://www.usa.safekids.org/tier2_rl.cfm?folder_id=1400

http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/CPS/CPSFitting/index.cfm

My husband sees what happens to kids (and adults) who are not buckled properly. It is worth it to make sure your kids are as safe as possible and a carseat can't do its job unless you install and adjust it properly.

Take care!

By the way, thanks for featuring us in your blog! I feel like I've just gotten a celebrity endorsement or something. Ah we loved seeing you guys--awkward visiting teacher notwithstanding. I've decided to forgive Jonah for preventing me from joining you at Walden Pond. It just took me a while.
