Route 66 To Springfield

So yeah...back to my Chicago vacation recap...

Probably my favorite thing we did in Chicago was leave Chicago to pay a visit to Abraham Lincoln's hometown of Springfield, Illinois. The road to Springfield (I-55) parallels none other than historic Route 66, a.k.a. the Mother Road. Coincidentally, it also parallels about 12 trillion hectares of cornfields, which doesn't make for a particularly exciting road trip. Here's a little taste of what a 3 hour drive through America's Heartland looks like with me and my crew:

Wow! Look at all that corn!

Hey! These people are growing corn, too!

And these people...

And these people...

Gee whiz, more corn?

Seriously?

What? We don't rotate crops nowadays?

Surely there's gotta be some potatoes out there somewhere...

Or a zucchini...

Or some carrots...

Anything!

Awesome. I feel like I was right there with you. I loved The Gambler. And Eye of the Tiger. Please tell me you saw Springfield, and not just corn??

Thank goodness for the entertainment in the seat next to you or that trip just may not have been worth it!! Hilarious! My favorite part? When she started playing the fiddle after "Fire on the mountain run, boys, run!" That was almost as good as when Sara Katherine picked her nose for you on our trip. :)

I never thought I'd see the day when you actually wished for zucchini.

What about Rhubarb? Why didn't they think of that?
